Privacy policy
Last updated 7 November 2026
Nurab is a free app that shows prayer times and the jamaat times of mosques near you, shared by the community. This policy explains, in plain words, what information the app collects, why, and what control you have. Nurab is run by Syed Mohmed Waseem, an individual developer in India. Questions: nurab.app@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Your profile, if you give it: name, gender, mobile number and city, and whether you'd like Ramadan and Eid updates. Your mobile number is confirmed with a one-time code.
- What you add: mosques, mosque names, jamaat timings, answers such as whether a mosque has space for ladies, votes on whether timings are correct, timing suggestions, reports of problems, requests to manage a mosque (with the role and contact number you give), and mosque photos you send.
- An app account ID: the app creates an anonymous ID when it first opens, so your settings and contributions can be linked to you without a password.
- Your location: see "Your location" below.
What stays on your phone only
Your namaz tracker (which prayers you ticked), tasbih counts, the duas you saved, and your settings are stored only on your phone. We don't receive them.
Your location
- The app uses your location on your phone to work out prayer times, the Qibla direction, Sehri and Iftar.
- To find nearby mosques, your location is sent with the search to our server. It is used for that search only and is not stored with your account.
- If you turn on "Jamaat soon" alerts, your phone watches for you passing near mosques, even when the app is closed. This happens on your phone; we don't receive or keep a record of where you go. You can turn it off in Settings.
Photos you scan
When you scan a mosque's timing board or a dua, the picture is sent to our server and to Anthropic's Claude AI service, which reads the text and sends it back. We don't keep the picture after reading it. Anthropic processes it under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to train its models on this data.
Why we use it
- To show mosques and jamaat times, and to let you add and correct them.
- To keep timings trustworthy: only people with a confirmed mobile number can change shared information, and we can undo edits and block misuse.
- To contact you about a mosque you asked to manage.
- Only if you turn it on: to send Ramadan and Eid updates.
Who can see what
- Everyone using the app sees mosque details, jamaat timings, vote counts and approved mosque photos. Your name and number are not shown with them.
- The app's admin can see profiles and who made each change, to keep the information correct and stop misuse.
- Mosque photos are checked by our team before anyone else can see them.
Services we use
- Supabase stores the app's data and photos, on servers in Mumbai, India.
- Anthropic (Claude) reads the pictures you scan, as described above.
- Meta (WhatsApp) delivers the one-time code that confirms your mobile number.
- Expo delivers app updates; your phone checks with Expo's servers for a newer version.
- Overture Maps and OpenStreetMap provide the mosque locations. No personal data is sent to them.
We don't use advertising, analytics or tracking services, and we never sell or rent your data.
How long we keep it
Your profile and account stay until you delete your account. Scanned pictures are not kept. Mosques, timings and approved photos you added stay in the app after you delete your account, because others rely on them, but they are no longer linked to you.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile at any time in Settings.
- Delete your account in Settings → Delete my account. See how account deletion works.
- Turn location, notifications and alerts on or off in Settings or your phone's settings.
- Email nurab.app@gmail.com to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it.
Security
Data travels encrypted (HTTPS). Access rules on our database mean people can only change what they're allowed to, and photos waiting for review can't be opened by anyone except the sender and our team.
Children
Nurab is meant for a general audience and is not designed for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has given us their details, email us and we'll delete them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For important changes, we'll also tell you in the app.
